Soccer
is for every child, and Santa Rosa Youth Soccer League (SRYSL) makes
it happen! Whether
a novice player participating at the recreational level, or an
advanced player at the competitive level, SRYSL has a program suited
for everyone. SRYSL is
made up of seven clubs – Annadel, Central, Kenwood, Laguna,
Northwest Oaks,
Rincon
Valley
and United - providing three different levels of youth soccer
programs:

Division
4 – Recreational
(Annadel, Central, Kenwood, Laguna, Northwest Oaks and
Rincon
Valley
Clubs) |

Description: |
A program for
all Under 6 and Under 8 players (minimum age is 4 as of August 1st
of playing year), and also for older players through Under 19 of any
skill level. |
| Focus: |
Soccer
fundamentals and teamwork. |
|
Active: |
August 1 to late
November. |
| League
Games: |
Teams compete
against other teams in their SRYSL club or against other clubs
within SRYSL. |
| Tournaments: |
Teams (Under 10
and up) may participate in the citywide annual City Cup Tournament
against teams from the other SRYSL clubs. |
| Forming
Teams: |
Equal-strength
teams are formed by club age-group coordinators from all youths
registered for Division 4 play in the club. Registration takes
place within each club beginning in April each year. |
| Coaches: |
Teams are
coached by volunteer parents, some with state-level coaching
licenses. |
| Travel: |
Division 4 teams
generally do not travel, unless electing to participate in the
state-wide annual championships (Under 12 and older teams only). |

3 - Developmental Competitive
(Annadel, Central, Laguna, Northwest Oaks and Rincon Valley Clubs) |
| Description: |
A program for
players interested in advancing their fundamental soccer skills and
beginning to focus on soccer strategy and technique. Teams are
formed at the Under 10, 12, 14, 16 and 19 ages. |
| Focus: |
Advanced soccer
fundamentals and beginning strategy. |
| Active: |
Mid-June to
mid-November for teams not competing in the statewide championship
competition, which extends into March. |
| League
Games: |
Teams compete
against other District V Division 3 teams from Marin, Napa, Lake,
Mendocino, Del Norte and Sonoma Counties. |
| Tournaments: |
Teams typically
participate in several tournaments each year, some requiring
overnight travel, and also may participate in the annual statewide
championship tournament starting in January each year. |
| Trainings: |
Two to three per
week, generally at fields within the club boundaries. Teams
may also participate in summer day camps with professional trainers. |
| Forming
Teams: |
Clubs host
competitive tryouts between mid-April to May each year.
Players who attend tryouts but are not selected for a team are
placed with Division 4 teams. |
| Coaches: |
Teams are
coached by volunteer parents typically with state-level coaching
licenses, some advanced. Many also have referee
licenses. Many teams also receive training from paid trainers
or attend weeklong soccer camps. |

Varies.
Includes league travel in District V, and may include tournament
travel throughout Northern California. |

Division
1 - Advanced Competitive
(United Club) |
| Description: |
A program for
players dedicated to learning advanced soccer skills, techniques and
strategy, and wanting to play competitive soccer at the highest
levels of youth soccer in the United States. Teams are formed
at the Under 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 ages. |
| Focus: |
Advanced soccer
skills, techniques and strategy, and competitive play. |
| Active: |
Year-round with
8 to 10 weeks of breaks for Under 14 and below. May to August
and December to April for Under 15 and above. |
| League
Games: |
Teams compete
against other Division 1 teams in United State Soccer
Federation-sanctioned leagues, with away games generally in the
North Bay and occasionally in Sacramento and the East Bay. |
| Tournaments: |
Teams typically
participate in several tournaments each year, most requiring
overnight travel. Under 11 and older teams also participate in
the annual statewide championship tournament starting in January
each year. |
| Trainings: |
Two to three per
week, generally at Place to Play or Belluzzo Fields in Santa
Rosa. Teams may also participate in summer day camps with
United staff or other professional trainers. |
| Forming
Teams: |
United annually
hosts community-wide open tryouts in March (Under 13 and below
players) and April (Under 14 and above players). Players who
attend tryouts but are not selected for a team are open to register
for Division 3 tryouts with other SRYSL clubs. |
| Coaches: |
Teams are
coached by paid professional coaches who have typically played
competitive soccer as professionals or at college, and who have
national-level coaching licenses. Many also have referee
licenses. Many teams also receive training from other
professional coaches on the United staff and Olympic Development
Program staff. |
| Travel: |
Varies.
Includes league and tournament travel in Northern California.
Top teams travel nationally. Generally the travel commitment
increases with the age group. |
